Auto Burglary Suspect Stole Handgun from Pickup

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps identify the young man suspected of breaking into a vehicle and stealing a handgun earlier this month.

Detectives with the Las Cruces Police Department learned that shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, March 17, someone entered into an unlocked pickup on the 4100 block of Calle de Luna and rummaged through the vehicle. The suspect stole a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun and two loaded magazines from inside the pickup.

The auto burglary was captured on surveillance cameras which can be viewed on the Las Cruces Police Department’s Facebook page.

Surveillance video seems to indicate that the suspect was checking the parking lot for unlocked doors and easily gained access to the 2016 Ford pickup.

The suspect appears to be a young man with short black or brown hair. He was wearing what looks to be a hoodie.
